TROVE goes to Coventry

Here are some photographs from our evening in Fargo Space, Coventry. For the event TROVE presented a wall of sound, one artist after the other. The programme looked like this:

Michael Valentine West
Adrian Johnson
Joshua Rackstraw and

and it was a great evening! All the sound was very loud, with a mix of diary readings and poetry alongside drone sounds to rhythmic digital beeps.

The only thing in the space, other than sound, were four chairs facing the back wall. These were placed there to help focus the attention of the audience on the sound, with the back wall having the same crumbly texture as TROVEs current home in the old Birmingham Science and Industry Museum - we were also putting the audience at home in any old industrial site.

Aedas Presents: Matthew Andrew sneak peek

Here is a sneak peek at Matthew's work being framed, ready for tomorrow's preview at Aedas Presents...

Aedas Presents Matthew Andrew

Preview Show 6 pm Thursday 14 July 2011
Colmore Plaza, Birmingham

Matthew's work explores one's preconceptions of what a reference photograph should be and how much information is conveyed to the viewer using a visual medium such as photography. He is interested in the relationship between truth, knowledge and photographic representation.

Aedas Presents welcome you to join us at this exclusive preview show from 6 pm - 8 pm on Thursday 14 July 2011. If you cannot make this date, Matthew's work will be displayed in Colmore Plaza until Friday 22 July. Please contact aedaspresents@aedas.com to arrange a visit.

anticurate submission saturday

anticurate at mac (midlands art centre, Birmingham) is a project by Trevor Pitt

It is Trevor's take on the Summer Open - Trevor has invited 5 'anticurators' to present 5 curated shows at mac this summer, the work selected from the pieces submitted for the mac's Open. The groups include:
  • Young at Heart
  • mac staff (not involved in the gallery)
  • young people from Project Platform and Ikon Youths
  • members of Eastside Project's Extra Special People
  • and finally the girls of No Aloha as selected to be the fifth anticurator from an open submission.
The final week of the 6 week show will then show all of the works that may not have been selected by the previous anticurators - so all work submitted will be exhibited at mac as part of the anticurate project.

And Saturday just gone was the first of two submission days (THE SECOND IS THIS WEDNESDAY 13TH BETWEEN 4-8PM!!!)

And here is the submission process...

Artists first approached the anticurate kiosk as designed by Juneau Projects (who have also designed the look of the gallery for the open shows)...

...forms filled artist register their works formally at mac...

..the they have the choice of being filmed with their pieces, before popping by and meeting some of the anticurators...

...here is No Aloha...

...the Ikon Youths group speaking to a submitting artist...

...and here is Young at Heart - who I had the pleasure of accompanying throughout the day.

Next the artists took their work to be stored ready for the anticurators to select from...

...and then home, after a brilliantly diverse day!

TROVE at Fargo Space, Coventry

TROVE IN COVENTRY
29th July 2011 6-9pm

TROVE invades Fargo Space with a room full of sound in its latest exhibit presenting several artists working with sound and music.

By achieving the atmosphere of a void this project attempts to present its unique taste of meditative loud sound that envelopes the space within the confines of the mundane urban environment. This allows the audience to explore the space in a fleeting moment or stay a little longer to experience.

Artists include: Milgram, Joshua Rackstraw, John Twells, Ed Wakefield, Richard Peel and Kate Spence

The SPACE PROGRAMME at Fargo is curated by Talking Birds. Each month a different artist takes over the empty industrial unit to make/do/perform their work. The only condition is that they open the space up to the public at the end of the month.

TROVE at Burlington

For July 2011 TROVE are in Manchester in a Suite at The Burlington Fine Art Club. We have taken one of our plan chests and filled it with three Birmingham artists, 3 Manchester ones and a trickster who hails from both places. Here is a little look at our plan chest and artsist work...

And here is our suite - a glory of yellow neon and pallets.

Ed Wakefield on the launch night did us proud with a brilliant reading.
