TROVE goes to Manchester

TROVE, for July, are heading to Manchester to be part of the exciting The Burlington Fine Arts Club project happening for the whole month.

Here is a little about what we're going to do up North...

TROVE is bringing to Manchester a plan chest. Three Birmingham based artists and three Manchester based artists, plus one trickster artist who hales from both locations, have been invited to create a compact and moveable gallery space, each with their own drawer. Guests to the Club are invited to open the drawers and look inside, take the drawers fully out and sit in the TROVE space within the Burlington Fine Art’s Club.

Artists include: Caroline Collinge, Tracey Eastham, Jo Gane, Caitlin Griffiths, Craig Marchington, Paul Newman and Edward Wakefield.

TROVE call out for short horror films

TROVE call out for shorts film

TROVE is an independent art space in Birmingham, UK. They run a monthly changing programme of contemporary art.

This August (5^th-7^th August 2011) TROVE will be holding a mini film/performance festival based on the works of James Whale. A film Director born in the Black Country (Dudley, West Midlands) who moved to Hollywood, USA, and made several of the worlds most famous horror films, including Frankenstein (1931), The Bride of Frankenstein (1935) and The Invisible Man (1933).

TROVE are inviting you to submit either proposals for or examples of finished short film pieces that fit the themes James Whale explored in his film back catalogue.

Anticurate at mac

Anticurate at mac is a project I am involved in with Birmingham based curator/artist Trevor Pitt. If you think you could be a curator without any arts background - you can!! more details below.

anticurate

anticurate is imagined as mac birmingham’s version of an open exhibition, offering a genuinely open opportunity through a democratic and collective approach to exhibition curating. Testing the conventions and authority of the visual art space, artist Trevor Pitt in association with mac birmingham presents anticurate as a challenge to the authorial figure of the curator.

What does the word curate mean to you? During the course of anticurate, we want to explore and question the notion of curating, and the hierarchies that are normally attached to the process.

Each week we’ll see a different exhibition of artwork selected by anticurators. Our anticurator groups include young people from Project Platform and Ikon Youth programme, a group of older people from Young at Heart, members of the Extra Special People professional development programme at Eastside Projects and a selection of mac birmingham staff. The anticurators will create their exhibitions from works submitted on the anticurate Open Day, Sat 9 Jul, 11am – 6pm.

Would you like to be our 5th anticurator?

You could apply as a collective or as an individual. You need to be available on Sat 9 July and between Mon 29 Aug – Sun 4 Sep to curate the fifth exhibition in the series. Applying is easy, simply tell us why you want to be an anticurator in 100 words or less and include 50 words telling us a little bit about yourself.

As part of Birmingham Architectural Association’s Made in Birmingham 2011 series, SHOWCASE is an exhibition which celebrates the current work of local architectural practices and architecture students.

SHOWCASE is part of a number of architecture and built environment events held during June at TROVE in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter and at other venues across the city.
